Katarina began to skate when she was five years old. Soon, her talents became apparent and she was accepted to Karl-Marx-Stadt's school for special needs. It was here that she met her coach Jutta Muller. Witt made her mark by finishing second at the 1982 World Championships, held in Copenhagen. Her graceful style and elegance of Witt drew the attention of the world and she's dominated her sport ever since. Olympic triumph at the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the women's silver medal in figure skating following an extremely close contest. After four years, her win, she managed to win an even more intense race. The free skater lost however she was awarded the gold medal in the figure that was compulsory as well as the short program. Witt is the only time a repeat medalist in figure skating for women in the sport since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt had many successes in her acting career however she returned to figure skating for competition at the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. Despite not winning the gold medal, she won over the audience. Witt's induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame was held in 1995.
